Conservation Technologies offers a fundamental and comprehensive updating of the traditional replication process that depends on making physical moulds directly from objects or scaling copies through mechanical or interpretive means.
Today the provenance and rarity of an object gives it high value and in most cases this means that the creation of copies through physical means is not an option, as the risk of damaging the surface of the object is considered too great. We are now able to replicate an object through highly accurate digital technology, using laser light that does not touch or harm the surface of the object.
This scanning can be performed in our well-equipped studio or taken in situ, the National Conservation Centre provides a secure and caring environment in which to create and develop high quality replicas and a wide variety of new products.
Our 3D product development service is aimed at the growing need within the museums and heritage sector to access the valuable assets in their collections. It makes possible the sale of high quality replicas, and brings numerous benefits beyond this by making available new tools with which to access and interpret artifacts. This can be through:
